The Cyclopean Castles

The Horde

Castle Porphyron Book I

Diomedes Melas is one of but a hundred survivors of a shattered mountain regiment. He’s also the master of Porphyron, a cyclopean castle that stands as the sentinel of Parnathia, a border province of the Empire of Heracleia. Aratheor Bladefallen is the Lord of Thorns, master of Porphyron’s twin, the cyclopean castle that guards the Kingdom of Valiri, on the other side of the mighty Stonewall mountain range. Ixiak, the Bloody Hand is a darkmage of depthless hatred and the singular ambition of bringing ruin upon the lands of dorians. On the path of war, he refuses to admit defeat. These three leaders and those who follow them inevitably collide and the mountain peaks reverberate with the sound of war’s thunder.

The steel and bronze of the dorian warriors clashes with the bone and iron of the numberless darkspawn, orphic mysticism is pitted against vile magganea and the cyclopean stones bleed. Even that which was built to stand forever, cannot endure for long the crushing grip of the Bloody Hand.

This is an epic fantasy novel close to ninety thousand words long, set in the Age of Thunder. It immerses the reader into the lives and the trials of the dorian peoples as the first millennium of the age comes to a close. This book launches the Cyclopean Castles series and it is the first part of the Castle Porphyron story arc.

These traitors and heroes alike converge on Castle Porphyron for the provincial council between imperial representatives and a valiran embassy that requests the Empire’s aid. This is Valiri’s last hope for victory and survival. However, the Bloody Hand learns of this initiative and he makes his own plans to ensure than an alliance between the two dorian realms does not come to pass. War arrives at Porphyron’s threshold on the wings of monsters and the clash of steel and magic reverberates in the barren hills. It falls upon Diomedes Melas and his Crimson Guard to put all wrongs to right else it’s going to be the end of hope.

The Cyclopean Castles

The Lion Roars

Castle Porphyron Book III

What price on shame? The pawns of the Game of Kings have to answer this question and decide between fear and obedience or bravery and honour. Castle Porphyron hosts the plots of the mighty and the regrets of the low and hides in its most secret chambers the dread secrets of its Master. Meanwhile, the Bloody Hand plays his own games of dominance with the Dragoness that he has enslaved and intends to unleash on hapless Valiri anew, to burn the proud kingdom to ashes. Across both lands, in the camps of friend and foe alike, murder is the rule of the night.

The Horde’s war on Valiri continues unabated while Heracleia’s lions lie asleep or prove toothless, unwilling or impotent to face the horror of the Bloody Hand. All except one. Diomedes Melas finds himself in a crucible of conflicting loyalties, of shame and dishonour where his very survival is at stake. Can he meet the challenges and defeat his foes or will he lie toothless and shamed on the dirt? The blood stones of Porphyron wait for their Lion to raise his head to the sky and Roar, but to do so, he must first break all chains and do what must be done.
