Deimos Battle System

This is a battle system that can be used to play large-scale battles in the 5th edition. This system can be used as a tactical wargame where two players build their armies and clash on the field of battle. It can also be used to role-play a war in your campaign and in such a context, the friendly side will be controlled by the player characters and the enemy side by the gamemaster.

This system is meant to provide greater complexity in the building of an army and in the playing of a battle compared to the existing rules that handle large-scale battles. It's not ideal for a group that prefers to play such a battle quickly because a whole gaming session must be devoted to the clash of armies on the battlefield. Also, Deimos provides an inexpensive solution in the role-playing of war in a campaign. The battlefield and the units can be created with simple and cheap materials and the various tokens that are needed are readily available.

You can use this system to play a war of epic proportions where thousands or even tens of thousands of soldiers and monsters clash or to depict the siege of a small fort manned by two hundred soldiers against a tribe of marauding orcs or even to lead a band of a few dozen desperate villagers in the defence of their homes against brigands or goblins. The Deimos system can handle all these situations with equal ease and provide greater depth and excitement in your fantasy battles.

When you purchase the Deimos Battle System you will get the rulebook which contains the core ruleset and a few optional rules, sample unit templates and a selection of spells converted to the Deimos war magic system. You will also get,

  • An interactive pdf document with which you can build warcards for the officers, units and fortifications of your army.

  • The Battle of Silver and Black which is a collection of three documents that constitute a battle scenario that can get you started on the Deimos system. The warcards for the units of both armies and the special rules that pertain to this battle are included.

Barbarian, Warrior Poet

This is an accesory for D&D 5th edition. This primal path is intended to portray a skald (a troubadour of the Viking culture) as an alternative to playing a Bard of the College of Valour. As it is written, this path best fits a Northlander barbarian of the Moonshae Isles, since they disdain magic and a Bard wouldn’t enjoy the respect of his peers. However, with some cosmetic changes (particularly the ability names that are written as kennings and references to Valkur), it can fit any sort of barbarian culture found in the Forgotten Realms.

Ranger, Class Rework

This is an extensive but not radical rework of the Ranger class in D&D 5th edition. It incoprorates material from the PHB as well as the UA revision and also provides new class and archetype features that replace some of the originals and alters some of the existing features in order to augment the functionality and usability of the core class traits and the Beast Master archetype.

One of the worst flaws of this class is the fact that it was designed as an archer with the melee side of it being neglected. In order to rectify this, one new spell is included in this rework and it is meant to augment a melee Ranger for whom the Hail of Thorns and similar spells are useless.

Backgrounds, Citizen Guard & Confidant

This accessory presents two new Backgrounds for use with the D&D 5th edition.

The Citizen Guard is a champion of the people, the one to whom a community turns to protect it with spear and shield when there's danger.

The Confidant is one whose empathy and charisma allows people to open up and share their fears and secrets.

The Chivalric Order of Saint Huormad_Thumbnail.jpg

The Chivalric Order of St. Huormad

This is a chivalric order for use in a Birthright campaign that would be suitable for an adventurer of the right persuasion and ethos. Anuire is supposed to be rife with knightly orders but there are none to be found in the books except for those associated with the various temples - which are implied rather than stated. The Chivalric Order of St. Huormad is small enough to be unknown and can be easily introduced to a new or existing campaign. It’s also loose and adventurous enough to accommodate a player character without any problems - even if he has other allegiances.

The original idea for this order was my attempt to keep my character’s name and deeds alive and relevant in a subsequent Birthright campaign which began 100 years after the first one which culminated in the Gorgon’s War. Huormad Conn did have an adventurous life, he did teach and christen young Dorn, he did oppose the use of the Fang of Kriesha by the faithful of the Cold Gods and he did die fighting the Gorgon in the last battle.

If you are christened a knight rider of Huormad’s order, do try to adhere to the Code and the Oath and drink a beer in the Saint’s name. [Updated in December 2022]
